: Has anyone else received spam to the address they used to register Fund Manager? Whenever I give an email address to a company I create a unique address so I can find out who is either selling their address list or who is keeping their address lists on machines that are not secure. About six months ago I received a spam to the address I used to Fund Manager but I did not keep the details on it, since then I have received four more as shown below;

: Date Time IP Address Subject
: 25-DEC-2005 05:33:39.42 69.242.21.209 We wish you a happy cristmass ;)
: 1-JAN-2006 14:04:25.31 85.60.129.198 GET YOUR UNIVERSITY DIPLOMA.
: 19-JAN-2006 04:00:05.24 212.191.172.4 More -size!
: 23-JAN-2006 13:38:13.96 200.153.68.122 Herbal-V pills!

: Google does not return any hits on this address on the web or in newsgroups, but somehow a spammer has an address I only used to register Fund Manager on their list.

: Please explain.

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, I cannot explain how your email address was compromised. I can re-state our privacy policay, that we do not give, sell, or share any of your personal information, including your email address, with anyone else. It is also in our best interest to make sure your information stays private, and only available to us. Information you provide when you register is stored on a computer that is not on the web. Of course when you post an email address on this message board, that is publicly visible, and could be compromised. That doesn't seem to be the case here though. The other possibility is that your email account was somehow read directly off the machine hosting your email accounts, or if you ever forwarded an email you received from us to anyone else, that would contain this unique email address.

If you'd like to cancel that email address, I can phone you up, and get a new unique email address. We will remove the old one from our records, and you can delete that old address. Maybe it will somehow help shed some light on how it happened by trying it again.

Thanks,
Mark
