Retrieving historical data

I'm a new user, and I must be missing something. What is the straightforward way to retrieve historical data? I had assumed that the program might directly retrieve historical prices for securities in a portfolio, but some help topics imply that I need to import them. Other threads make don't seem to imply a multi-step process (download to a file then import). Can you please direct me to the proper place in the documentation for what to do? Thank you.
