Restoring backup

Mark, Big trouble! My computer recently went through a major upgrade (not by choice) which caused me to lose a program or two. Fortunately, I regularly backup FM, and it appeared that FM was not lost. However, when I tried to open FM it was not set up as I left it before the upgrade. I thought I would just be able to use my CD-backup, open the program, and hit "restore", but this didn't work as smoothly as I had hoped. When I went to try to perform an internet retrieval, I kept getting error messages. ? I need to re-download the program to reinstall? Do I need to "restore" with FM open or restore to "my data"? Help! Thanks.
