: I owned 95 shares of EXCITE which merged with ATHM. For my 95 shares of EXCITE, they were exchanged to 98 shares of ATHM. What's the best way to handle this. I want to maintain good records for tax preporation capital gains/losses!!

Here are a couple of options:

1) You can record a 98 for 95 ratio split, and change the name/symbol of your existing investment.

2) You can record a sell for the cost basis of
your 95 shares, and then create a new investment,
and record a purchase for this same cost basis amount, but purchasing 98 shares. You would end
up with two investments. You will see a sell
show up on your capital gain reports if you leave
Excite in your portfolio. You could ignore that,
or remove it from your portfolio.

Thanks,
Mark
