: I'm having difficulty keeping individual investment files straight because I own the same thing in multiple portfolios. FM seems to make new copies of files (ABC; ABC1, ABC2, etc) and then new dividends sometimes don't get recorded properly.

: I'd like to create literal folders that match the folders in the portfolio manager view, that is, make folders on the disk for each portfolio and each subportfolio, so that I can keep better separation of the .dat files. I don't see a way to do that in the portfolio manager; there's no way to dictate a new location for a file. Or is there?

Hi Mary,

You would normally want to create a new investment file (*.dat) for each separate holding of an investment. This way you can track the transaction histories separately. When you create a new investment manually (File / New Investment...) you get to assign the location of the new investment file. If you are importing or retrieving, and Fund Manager finds a new investment not currently in your existing account, FM will create the new investment for you. You do have control over this, but the default is to just let FM create it automatically for you.

If you want to change the location and/or filename of an existing investment in your portfolio, use the Portfolio Editor. Select the investment, and choose "File / Save Investment As..." to assign the desired location and filename.

Thanks,
Mark
