Ticker symbol conversion[ Message Board ] [ Archives ] [ Search ] Posted by Jamie on October 17, 2006 at 17:26:20: Just inquiring what is the best way to handle when a mutual fund undergoes a non-taxable conversion (in a taxable account) from one ticker symbol to another. At the same time the number of shares may be slightly different. I tried using a "spin-off", but I still have the original shares still there, when I need those to go to zero without ending up on the capital gains report. I'm currently using splits for when a fund undergoes a class conversion and I keep the same ticker. But using splits will not work with funds having more than 5000-10000 shares as FM truncates to 6 decimal digits. It's not real common, but it has happened 4 times over the last couple of years. Fortunately, these have been small funds. Jamie
