Re: Suggestion for Change - Transaction Entry[ Message Board ] [ Archives ] [ Search ] Posted by Mark on July 09, 2006 at 12:15:27: In Reply to: Suggestion for Change - Transaction Entry posted by Bruce Reirden on July 09, 2006 at 10:58:15: : I Funds Manager updated with the transaction reports I get from my mutual funds managers. When I do the updates (buy/sell/dividends, etc) the price field is filled in automatically so I highlight the price field and delete it before entering the value and shares fields. I do this because I am more interested in keeping the number of shares accurate than the price on any given day. : My sugggestion is to have a setting that would allow us to choose not to have the price field automatically filled in when we call up a transaction box. This would be a real time saver when doing large numbers of transactions. : An enhancement to the above would be to allow multiple transactions to be entered at a time, perhaps up to 15. This way, when the quarterly statements come in, it would be easier to enter the quarter's transactions at once. Again, a time saver.
Thanks for the feedback/idea. I like the idea of being able to enter bulk transactions. I can offer a suggestion that will address your concern about the price automatically filling in. When you enter a transaction, the dialog is designed with the "tab order" such that you can move from the date, to the value, to the shares, and then the price. As you pointed out, it is most important to get the value and shares exactly as shown on your statement, and put any rounding into the price field. You can leave the initial price filled in by Fund Manager, but enter the value, then the shares, and then when you tab over to the price field it will be updated automatically to reflect your value/share entries. Alternatively, as soon as you fill in the shares, hit the Enter key on your keyboard, or press the OK button. Since you only filled in value/shares, the price field will be automatically adjusted to make sure "price * shares = value".
