: Concerning a comparison of my portfolio to one or more major indices:

: I'd like to include a comparison of my portfolio to a couple of the major stocks indices (e.g. S&P500 and DJ Industrial), but I have no idea how to accomplish this.

: Since I own no such funds or record of index data in any portfolio, I'm confused as to how I include this data without confusing the program into thinking I've somehow created a transaction rather than a comparison.

: Thank you for any reponse.

Hello DBohica,

To compare against an index you'll want to create a new investment to track whatever index you'd like to compare against. You may want to create a new subportfolio to put these indices in. You can put the indices portfolio at the same level as your portfolio, so you can report on them separately, but see both on the same report. To get ROI yields out of the index you would need to record some early purchase, for maybe $1.

Besides reports, you can also graphically compare using the "Graphs / Portfolio/Investments Overlay" graph types. To choose the overlaid portfolio/investments, see "Graphs / Options / Overlaid Portfolios and Overlay Investments".

Thanks,
Mark
