: : : : I'm testing the software and have hit my first glitch. I cannot download transactions from American Funds. I've set up the parameters, including User ID, password and account number.

: : : : I've spoken to the help desk at American Funds and they said they do not support Fund Manager, but they gave me the "typical" setup options (Quicken, MS Money, etc.) to use.

: : : : Using these options, I get the error "invalid logon" when trying to download transactions. I can log on to the American Funds site using the same User ID, password and Account Number. (Actually, AF asks only for Account Number and Password).

: : : : Any help is appreciated.

: : : : John

: : : Hi John,

: : : Yes, it is not surprising they haven't heard of Fund Manager, but Fund Manager acts just like Money (and Quicken) in the way it retrieves transactions. If you ask them to enable your account for Money, those same settings should also work in FM. If you keep getting the invalid login, and you're sure you're entering it right, you might want to try it in Money. It may be that your account hasn't been enabled yet for the transaction retrieve feature, or the userid/password are different from the ones you use to access their web site. These are different servers, and it is possible that they may provide you with a different username/password than you use to login to the web site.

: : : You can download a free trial copy of Money to test out your login settings. I suspect that if you can't get logged on with FM, you won't be able to get logged on with Money either. If that is the case, you'll need to call American Funds back up, and ask for help. If you're using Money, and can't login, they can probably help you more, than if you were using Fund Manager.

: : : Thanks,

: : : Fund Manager - Portfolio Management Software

: : Hi Mark,

: : I called AF back and tried this with Quicken and it worked fine. The User ID/PW combination I set up in FM (that didn't work) worked with Quicken.

: : I didn't have to set up anything separate (the transaction retrieve feature), so I'm a bit confused.

: : John

: Hi John,

: Would you mind trying it with Money? FM actually works identically to Money. I think Quicken works the same, but am not sure. If it works in Money, we can turn on the logging feature in Money, and see if it is sending the same thing that FM is sending. I'm not sure how to do the equivalent with Quicken. You can get a free trial copy of Money here:

: One other idea... I have seen once before where if you are using a password manager program, like Norton, it can actually change the dialog in FM to a different password than you typed in. Just an idea, in case you are using something like this.

: Thanks,
: Mark

Was there a resolution to this problem? I cannot download from American Funds either.
