: I currently use several different strategies for managing my portfolio. At present, I'm using a spreadsheet to track the performance of each individual strategy, as Quicken doesn't have a mechanism for categorizing or assigning a strategy type to a given stock pick.

: I really want to replace the spreadsheet with something more automated. An ideal solution would provide me with the ability to either:

: - export trades from my broker, append a strategy name to each buy trade, import the data and then report the results by assigned strategy

: - assign a strategy to each held stock through the UI then report results by strategy.

: Does FM support something like this?

: Thanks,

Hi Randy,

Yes, you can do this at the "investment" level, but not at the "trade" level. In other words, you can assign a stock to a category, but not each individual buy/sell of that stock. If you _really_ wanted to, you could create new investments for each trade, so that you could essentially categorize each trade. Normally though, you would put all transactions for a given investment into the same investment.

There are 2 sets of categories in Fund Manager. Each set has 25 allowed categories, and each investment can be assigned in percentage terms to any of these categories. You can then graph/report on these categories. The categories are called "Asset Type" and "Investment Goal" in Fund Manager. You can customize the names for each of the categories to anything you want.

Thanks,
Mark
