: Mark,

: I'm doing something incorrectly in an effort to reconstruct a subportfolio that spans about 4 years. My objective is to reconstruct a previously built, already existing subportfolio as if it was begun on 7/30/06, and measure the expected accumulations until 7/31/07. The reason for doing this: the account consisted of 3 different money markets, and the balances are too confusing to follow. I am hoping to obtain a cleaner money-market record.

: Thus far, what I've done is: (1) begin with the money market balance on 7/28/06, and use that balance as the default cash account, (2) copy all the portfolio holdings that were present in the previously constructed subportfolio on 7/28/06, (3) then copy/add all the additional new holdings/sales over the past year from the previously constructed subportfolio to this newly constructed subportfolio. (3)Then use OFX to download all the transactions not addressed in the steps above.

: Some confusing elements arise at this point (no fault of FM, to be sure): (1) A new money market symbol pops in, and seems to offset the transactions of the default cash account, only no purchase price (i.e. number 1) is present. (2) The money market balances are once again substantially off. (3) The Portfolio Return measures register in negative territory, whereas a gain of about 15% was actually rendered.

: One known problem I'm attempting to address is the entire money market balance was transferred into a new money market product this past June by my firm's custodian.

: I'm sending you the money market files via email as there is probably a basic error in the way I am recording the money market problems. Thank you for any help you might provide.

Hi Steve,

I don't think I followed all of the details of what is going on here.

1) When did the new money market symbol pop in? What do you meant by "pop in"? Maybe this symbol came in when you imported your OFX transactions?

2) If any investment's balance is off, then you can check the recorded transactions. The balance is simply the sum of all prior recorded transactions. You can look at the transactions in the Data Register with the "Investments (all)" data type selected.

3) The returns will be different, if some of your transactions aren't recorded the same.

Thanks,
Mark
