: : : Suggestion for future versions: Include a section in Global Preferences (or similar) that specifies where the FM files will be stored. Question: is it advantageous to create separate directories for each type of file (i.e. price files, portfolio files, etc.)?

: : : I attempted several times to locate my data files in C:\Program Files\Fund Manager\Data and C:\Program Files\Fund Manager\Portfolios. However the program always defaulted to My Documents\Fund Manager, and was usually unable to find files when the program opened. (Using XP Pro)

: : : I gave up with that attempt and let the program save information to its default folder. However, there are many types of files from a number of sub-portfolios all stored in one directory. FM has no problem with this arrangement, but it is difficult for me to identify which files go with which portfolios.

: : : Comment: The module and version update process for FM is outstanding. I really appreciate the Message Board as well!

: : Hi Parker C.,

: : Thanks for the feedback. The location for your data files is set when you first create them, either manually or via import/retrieve. FM does remember your last directory as a preference for the next time you save. You should be able to set the location of your data files anywhere you want. (Under Vista you should not save them in the Program Files path, as normal users don't have write permission there, but this doesn't sound like it would affect you.)

: : There are only 2 types of files saved by FM: Investment files (*.dat) and Portfolio files (*.mm4). The easiest methodology is to just store them all in a single folder. You can organize these into folders if you wish though. The folder hierarchy you use to store your investments is independent of how sub-portfolios are organized within a portfolio file. You can make them the same, but it is not necessary.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

Mark,
I second the request for a one-stop global preferences dialog panel.
