: : I created a sub-portfolio and named it Vanguard. I have five investments there. When I try to retrieve transactions, it asks for an account number. The problem is that Vanguard gives me a separate account number for each investment. There is no "master" account number. How can I retrieve all the trasactions for a sub-portfolio with this characteristic?

: Hi MikeG,

: If each of your investments has a separate account number, you'll have to set up a sub-portfolio for each one, so that you can assign each one the right account number.

: I've not heard of Vanguard doing this before? Do you have some sort of special account with them?

: Thanks,
: Mark

Strange! Vanguard does not do this, but T Rowe Price does.

I did find a work around for this. In the account number
field, I do not enter anything for the subportfolio. The
rest of the login info is entered as usual. When I did
a retrieve, FundManager listed all the TRP accounts we
have (by account number) and all I had to do was to select
the account number of the fund in question and all was done.
The trouble is that this number is the default number from
now and you have to change it (or blank it out) to get to
the other funds.

Yes, it would be nice to tie the account number to the lowest
level entity rather than the sub-portfolio.

Again, I am surprised that Vanguard does this. The only
reason I can think of is that some of the funds are after
tax, some IRA type, etc. *Then*, you will have different
numbers (as I do!).
