: : Web news is a useful feature. Mine always worked & retreived current news items from Yahoo (the URL is set to the default: http://biz.yahoo.com/n//.html.

: : When I use the feature now I get a message on the page returned by Yahoo that "There are no headlines at the moment." However if I click on Charts on the Yahoo page and from the charts page click on News, I get the normal news page.

: : Something likely changed at Yahoo.

: Hi Wayne,

: What symbol are you using? When I test this with INTC it seems to work.
: The default URL will take you to:

: which does seem to work.

: Thanks,
: Mark

I think I figured out what does and doesn't work. I am Canadian so a lot of my stocks are on the main Canadian exchange (the Toronto Stock Exchange). Yahoo represents Canadian stocks in their database with a .TO suffix (e.g. Research in Motion's symbol on the TSE is RIM. Yahoo lists it as RIM.TO).

Accessing web news using the xxx.TO symbol always worked in the past but something has changed and it appears not to work anymore. I use Yahoo as the source for stock updates in Fund Manager & so need to list the .TO name to download from the Yahoo site. But then web news no longer works.

RIM is one company that is listed on both NASDAQ and the TSE. In this case I could use the NASDAQ symbol instead of the TSE symbol & it would work (more or less the same). Many Canadian stocks however are listed only on the TSE.

Workarounds??
Notify Yahoo of the problem if at their end? (Do you have an inside track there?)

If you can correct the problem it would be appreciated.
