: : : : : I am trying to load a demo copy of Fund Manager (I have tried both versions) on an old laptop to give to a friend. The downloaded file tries to open, but I get an error "0" saying that the wizard cannot be opened and the process aborts.

: : : : : The laptop has 28 mb of RAM and 83 mb of free hard disk space and is operating on Windows 95, 4.00.950.

: : : : : Are there any obvious answers to this problem?

: : : : : Thanks,

: : : : Hi Bill,
: : : : I would start by looking at the size (in bytes) of the downloaded file,
: : : : and compare it against the byte count displayed on our download page. This
: : : : will at least tell you if the correct # of bytes were downloaded.
: : : : This error message does not sound familiar to me. You should be able to
: : : : do this on the system you described.

: : : : Thanks,
: : : : Mark

: : : Thanks Mark,

: : : The byte size is ok. I tested the downloaded file on my desktop and it starts installation fine. The same file unzips on my laptop and starts the installation process, but the following message comes on, "Failed to create wizard dialog, error 0. Set Up aborted."

: : : I also "control alt delete" end task all the running programs except Explorer and Systray before starting the installation without any success.

: : : Do you have any more ideas? The main reason my friend wants to learn how to use a computer is to follow his investments.

: : : Thanks,

: : : Bill

: : Hi Mark,

: : I had my laptop looked at by my computer repairman. He says that it appears that my Windows version needs to have Internet Explorer for the Fund Manager to install. My laptop does not have Internet Explorer and I have limited hard disk space. If this is the reason, is there a way to get a version not dependent upon Internet Explorer?

: : Thanks,

: : Bill

: Hi Bill,
: Fund Manager does not require IE to be installed. It comes with everything
: you need, besides a plain installation of Windows 95 or above. I haven't heard
: of this error before, and am not sure what it is. Did you download the
: self-extracting .exe, or a .zip file? Maybe you have the .zip file, but don't
: have any unzipping program? If you download the .exe (the default if you get
: it from our web site), this should eliminate the need for an unzipping program.

: Thanks,
: Mark

Hi Mark,

I got the downloaded file to update the comctrl32 file from Don. It worked like a charm. Many thanks. The Fund Manager program is working on my laptop now.

Thanks again.

Bill
