: : : : When backing up I often (say 50% of backups) get a message "access is denied", and following that, "could not copy xxx.dat" for one or two stocks. The stocks are different each time this occurs. Is this a bug or is there a setting I am not aware of? It has occurred with FM 3 and 4, as well as the latest version.

: : : Hi Bob,
: : : There is no setting for this. One thing to check is that you don't have a
: : : file there already that is marked as "Read-Only"? Are you backing up to a
: : : floppy or something else?

: I have this morning backed up to floppy and had two stocks with the "access denied" message. I repeated the backup - cleared the disc using Wind Expl - this time only one "access denied", the same as the second of the two previous rejects. This is not a major problem but is annoying!

: : I am backing up on to floppy (4 in fact). I erase the floppys using windows explorer (select all/delete). The stocks affected seem random. Next time I back-up I will do it twice to see if the same stocks are affected when backing up a second time in close succession. However on my weekly back ups about half the time the problem does not occur at all.

Hi Bob,
If you look at your disk after the backup is it full? FM checks for
sufficient disk space on floppies before copying, and if there isn't enough
room, it will ask you to insert another disk. I'm wondering if this is
related to running out of room, or something else. If you look to see how
much empty space is left on the floppy that would help. Do you only need
1 floppy to back up your investments?
The other possibility is that your floppy is bad, or maybe your floppy
drive is going bad?

Thanks,
Mark
