: : : I have FM on both my desktop and my laptop. When I am traveling I want to update the data files on my laptop and when at home, on the desk machine. But to do this, I need to be able to copy the current data file from the current computer to the one I will be using. I have all FM data files in a separate subdirectory and when I copy the directory to the other computer it seems to wreck FM to the point I have to re-install it. What is the proper way to copy the data files?

: : Hi Rich,
: : There should be no problem with just copying your investment files (*.dat)
: : from one machine to another. Some things to make sure of are:

: : 1) You're using the same version on both machines
: : 2) You only need to copy the investment files (*.dat)
: : 3) If using a portfolio, the investment files should be stored in the
: : same relative path to the portfolios on each machine

: : Thanks,

: Mark, 1)I'm using the same FM version: 4.7.226 ; 2) I'm copying both the ".dat" and the portfolio files; 3) same path on both machines.
: One difference is that my desktop is running W98 and the laptop has W95. Could this cause a problem?
: Rich

Rich,
Win95/98 should not be a problem. What are the exact symptoms?

Thanks,
Mark
