: : : Dear Mark,

: : : How can I back up my investment properties, such as asset goal and investment type? I recently did a reformat of my hard drive and when I installed Fund Manager 4.7, and opened my backup of the investment files, all the settings for 300 securities were lost. Does File-Backup... do the trick?

: : Hi Clarke,
: : Your investment properties are memorized with the investment file itself
: : (*.dat). This means which goal/type and the percentages. The category
: : labels themselves are stored in the registry. These are FM wide settings.

: : If you use "regedit" and go to the registry you will see:

: : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Fund Manager\CurrentVersion\Investment Goal Labels

: : and

: : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Fund Manager\CurrentVersion\Asset Type Labels

: : This is where the names you've customized under "Options/Category Labels"
: : are stored. You can either use this dialog to re-enter the names you
: : want, or if you have your old registry you can replace the values in
: : the above mentioned registry slots.

: : Thanks,
: : Mark

: Well I looked for those two things in the registry but they were not there. Is that because I reinstalled the program after setting up a new hard drive?

: So am I correct in understanding that I must somehow backup the Beiley registry to save all my settings? How do you do this?

: It would be a great feature if Fund Manager had a backup/restore option that could easily backup and restore everything. I often reformat or get a bigger HD, and it would make me a lot more comfortable with the program if this feature was included.

Hi Clarke,
These registry values get set whenever you do a "Options/Category Labels..."
from within FM. If you uninstall FM or format your HD these will be
removed. FM does save many global preferences in the registry, just like
most programs do. I can understand your desire to retain your settings.
We can give this some thought on the best way to do this. Maybe it would
be just document where they are stored, so you can back this up before
wiping out the registry on a HD format.

Thanks,
Mark
