Hi Jane,

an identical error is generated when a retrieve operation fails due to an
implicit or explicit firewall rule. I read where you can download from some
quote servers but not others. Are you by chance using a firewall ?

Yahoo, Yahoo (Adjusted Historical) and Yahoo (Historical) all access quote
servers at http://quote.yahoo.com.

Are you able to ping this URL from your location.

From the Windows TaskBar select:

Start / Run

and enter the following command:

ping quote.yahoo.com

(NB. The IP address may differ as Yahoo use multiple quote servers).

Example Response:
Pinging finance.yahoo.com [216.115.105.230] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 216.115.105.230: bytes=32 time=421ms TTL=243
Reply from 216.115.105.230: bytes=32 time=428ms TTL=243

Messages containing the word timeout are not a good sign.

One other suggestion that might prove useful.

From you home machine:

Connect to the Internet as usual
Shutdown any keep-alive programs (to minimise traffic) - if applicable.
Start Fund Manager and select the portfolio with fewest entries.
Double-click the DUN icon in the system tray area and note the number
of bytes received/sent. Monitor for say 5-10 secs - there should
be minimal activety. Commence the retrieve process. Respond to several
of the ensuing messages then double-click the DUN icon in your system tray
again. Have the number of bytes sent/received increased commensurate with
the retrieve process ?

Perhaps this information might assist Mark to identify the source of the
problem. Just my two cents worth. Good luck.

Brett
