: : I'm using default internet quote server, Yahoo. I get the daily prices OK, but I do not get any daily volumn data. Do I need to switch to another quote server or adjust some setting?

: More percisely, how can I get volumn data for indexes, ala the S&P 500?

Volume is not available for indices or mutual funds, only stocks.
For example, see:

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=^SPX&d=t

You will notice the "Volume" field says "N/A". An index is not actually
traded, so there is no such thing as volume...

Thanks,
Mark
