: : Hi, Mark:

: : I am a new user of FM 4.1. I tried to backup investment data files of two protfolios into floppy disks. From time to time, I would get error messages saying that it could not copy an investment. Some investment files are therfore missed. It is not the same .dat files that give the problems. There are lots of disk space available on the floppy. Using new floppies did not make any different.

: : Am I the only one having problems with backing up .dat files to floppy? Are the command meant for using removable disks?

: : Thanks.

: Hi Yan,
: Yes, the backup command is meant to be used on any disk. Usually this
: error will happen if you run out of disk space on the floppy. What if you
: try to just copy the investment files using Windows Explorer or something?
: Do you get the same error?

: Thanks,
: Mark

Hi, Mark.
Using Windows Explorer, I can copy all files to my floppy. But when I use the Backup command in FM, I would get the error message, "Disk Write Error. Unable to write to disk in drive A. Data or file may be lost. Press any key to continue", from time to time. Pressing a key to continue will miss copying (or writing over) some investment files. I have to use Windows Explorer to complete the copying. The error message occurs most often if there are lots of *.dat file in the portfolio, but it does not always associate with a particular .dat file. I am puzzled!

Thanks.
Yan Lau
