: I've been a delighted user of Fundmanager 9.4 since August '97. I just bought a new computer with Windows 98 operating system and the first thing I've done with it is download and register Fundmanager 4.1. Now I'd like to load all the data from my v.9.4 to v.4.1. How?
: The last thing I did with the old computer is backup all my Fundmanager files through 6/23/99, and was hoping I could just pop the disc in the new computer, hit "restore," and be back in business. No such luck.
: Please advise how to proceed. (Please DON'T tell me I need to manually re-enter all the data from investments going back over 20 years!)
: Thanks,

Hi Charlie,
After you've installed 4.1 on your new system, you can just copy over
your investment files (*.dat) from your old computer to your new one.
You can then open these up, just as you did before, using "File/Open
Investment(s)...". You will be prompted if you would like to convert
these investment files to the newer file format. You would answer yes to this.

If you used portfolios with 9.4, you can copy these over too (*.mm4), or
you can easily just re-create them in 4.1. Version 4.1 can open multiple
investments at once, so setting up portfolios is now easier than it has been
in the past. If you are keeping your investment files in the same relative
path, as they were on your 9.4 machine, then using your old portfolios will
work fine, otherwise you would have to create them new on your new machine.
In version 9.4 portfolios contained the full path to their investments.
(Version 4.1 stores the relative path, instead of the absolute path, so
transferring/moving portfolios is now easier.)

Thanks,
Mark
