: I am about to start using FM for the first time. My wife and I both have brokerage accounts that had long held securities and cash as of 12/1/98. Most of the securities were sold in December and new ones purchased. I want to set up portfolios for each account showing the cash and security balances as of 12/1. I am puzzled about how to handle stock purchases made prior to 12/1/98. I don't want those old purchases to be subtracted from the 12/1 cash balance.

: Regards,

: Joe

Joe,
You can enter the purchases using "Edit/All Data..." with the "Investments (all)" data type selected. If you don't want to have the purchase amounts deducted from your cash account, just make sure you don't have a default cash account specified under "Options/Other Preferences...". By default there is no cash account specified.

Thanks,
Mark
