Yes, you can do this. First of all, make a
backup copy of all your *.dat and *.mm4 data
files, just in case.... With these, you can
always go back.

Install FM4 to a new directory. Copy your *.dat
investment files into a new directory, probably
the "my_data" sub-folder under the directory
where you installed 4.0. Then use the "File/
Open Investment(s)..." command in 4.0 to open
these newly copied investments. One important
point is to not open the old portfolios created
with 3.4, as you will be opening the investments
back in the 3.4 folder, since 3.4 portfolios
contain the full path of their investments.
