: : What I've been doing for the past few years is record the sell in your stock data file and have the proceeds recorded as a buy in your cash account. You can set up a cash account as an investment type and assign it a symbol of your name or something. You then have a complete trail of where the proceeds went, and your portfolio value will be correct since the proceeds didn't just disappear. I also leave the stock you sold active in the portfolio it was a part of for at least 1 year. This allows for better reporting when you look at portfolio performance for up to a year period. When you want to buy another stock/fund you use the money that was in the cash account. Or, if you want to just blow the money you made, make a sell entry in the cash account.

: Your way makes sense but I have a question. You say that you leave the stock in the portfolio for a year to get a more accuate performance. However, after a year do you delete the stock. I just sold three mutals funds and transfered the money to new mutual funds. At first I just deleted the mutual funds but then the portfolio graph shows a BIG dip in (I guess this depends upon how much you sell). This did affect the portfolio ROI slightly. The problem I see in keeping all the investments is that it starts to get cumbersome to potentially wade through 20 or 30 graphs. Perhaps Mark could add either an option to TRANSFER shares so that you could delete the sold investment. Another thought would be the ability to HIDE particulary investments. That way you could contine to get an accurate ROI but not have to wade through investments that you no longer hold.

In version 4, there is a new investment property,
"hidden", for just this purpose. See "Investment
Properties/Other".
