Flickering Cursor

After I begin editing data my cursor starts flickering rapidly between the wait (hour glass) and point(arrow) modes. This happened some time before when I initially used the program, then it stopped. At that time, I thought it was because I had an unfinished edit in the background. Now this is not the case, but recently the flickering occurs cosistently. Obviously this is annoying, but it also appears to slow down the process. I tried the latest version but this didn't help.
I'm using Windows 95 and I didn't make any recent computer hardware or software changes. Has this been encountered before?
