Yes, you can record notes as you've described. Right click on an
investment's graph, and choose "Note..." from the popup menu. The notes
dialog will come up allowing you to record any number of notes for that (or
any open) investment.

If you have the note markers turned on (Options/Markers) you will see
the markers for notes displayed on your graphs.
