General Preferences - Data Dialog

This dialog is available from the Options / General Preferences... menu command.

This dialog page allows you to customize data related settings. These preferences are memorized from session to session. They include:

Automatic Backup

Specify how often and where to store the backups for the automatic backup feature.  The automatic backup is performed by Fund Manager when exiting the application.  The backup will be named <portfolio_filename>_<revision #>.fmb and will be located in the folder specified.  Fund Manager will keep multiple backup revisions for your portfolio.  Once the specified number of revisions is reached, Fund Manager will start replacing the oldest backup when it saves a new backup.  When using the portable/cloude mode this backup path must begin with a period, meaning a path relative to the FM program folder.

Automatic Investment Save

When this option is enabled, changes in your open investments are automatically saved at the specified time interval.

Password Protect Data

Optionally enter a password to protect all your currently opened data files.  This includes all investment files (*.dat), the portfolio file (*.mm4) and the client list (clientdb.fmc) for the Advisor version.

Open Last Portfolio At Startup

When this option is turned on Fund Manager will automatically open the portfolio that you had open when you last quit Fund Manager.

Warn When Modifying Reconciled Data

When modifying any transaction data for a date that has already been reconciled, a warning message will show.  You will be given the opportunity to choose whether or not to continue recording this data.

Prefer to use Open/High/Low/Volume

This option controls the tab order in the multiple price update dialog box. If you generally manually record open, high, low, and volume leave this turned on so the tab key will move the keyboard focus through these fields for each investment. By turning this option off you can tab from the closing price edit box of one investment straight to the next closing price edit box, without bothering to go through all the open, high, low, and volume edit boxes.

Portable/Cloud Mode

Select this option to run Fund Manager off a removable drive (like a memory stick), shared network drive, or a cloud drive (like Dropbox or Google Drive).  This mode is useful to be able to run Fund Manager from any computer, and have your same data and preferences available no matter which computer is used to access the program.

When this mode is on, no changes are made to the local computer.  For example, all program options and preferences are stored in the "fmprefs.txt" file located in the same folder as the Fund Manager executable. When this mode is off, your preferences are instead stored in the registry.

In the Advisor version of Fund Manager this mode also enables data protection.  This ensures no more than 1 user at a time is modifying data with this copy of Fund Manager.

For more information and usage tips, see Portable/Cloud Mode.

Enable Audit Trail Logging

When this option is on, all activity is logged to the "AuditTrail.txt" log file in your user's application data \ Fund Manager folder.  This feature is only available in the Advisor version.
