Download transactions and reconcile from Merrill Lynch
Merrill Lynch has disabled their OFX server, so automatic retrieval of transactions/positions from Fund Manager is no longer possible, but you can still download/import this data.
Importing Transactions
- Download a .CSV activity file from "Download Account Data" on Merrill's website.
On the "Accounts" menu along top there is a link to "Download Account Data" which gives you a form with these options:
- Choose category or account: Select which accounts you'd like to download
- Choose Settings: Choose to download an "Activity" file, and select the 4 options: "Dividends/interest", "Fund receipts", "Fund transfers", "Security transactions", and pick the date range you'd like to download.
- Download: Press the "CSV" button to download the .CSV file
If you chose "All accounts" it will download a single .CSV file for all your accounts.
- Use this helper spreadsheet
to massage the downloaded .CSV file into one compatible for importing into Fund Manager.
See the "Instructions" sheet. Before importing the first time, verify your account numbers
are recorded in Fund Manager the same as they downloaded in the CSV file (including any dashes).
The account numbers are in column F of the downloaded CSV file.
- Import the massaged .CSV file into Fund Manager using "File / Import / Transactions / Generic..."
with the "Input Format": MM/DD/YY,SYMB,ACCT,TRAN,ANUM,BNUM,CNUM,MEMO
Reconciling
- Download a .CSV "holdings" file from "Download Account Data" on Merrill's website
- Open the Reconciliation Wizard and choose the account to reconcile (or right mouse click on a sub-portfolio, and choose "Reconcile...")
- For "Reconciliation Statement Source" choose "Generic Position File (*.CSV, *.TXT)"
- For "Statement File" browse to the .CSV holdings file you downloaded from Merrill's website.
(Note, the holdings file is different from the activity file, and can be directly used for reconciling, it does not need to go through the transaction helper spreadsheet.)
- For the "Input Format" use: "MM/DD/YY","XX","XX","CUSIP","XX","XX","XX","ACCT","BNUM",XX
Importing Prices
- Use the same downloaded .CSV "holdings" file from "Download Account Data" on Merrill's website
- Use "File / Import / Prices / Generic..."
- Un-check both "Specify Date" and "Specify Symbol"
- For "Input Format" use: "MM/DD/YY","XX","SYMB","XX","XX","XX","XX","XX","XX","NAV",XX
- For "File To Import" browse to the un-modified downloaded .CSV holdings file
