Specific Lot ID Dialog

This dialog is available from the Edit / Specify Lots... menu command under the Graphs window.  It is also available at Edit / Investment Data / Specify Lots... in the Portfolio Editor window, or by right clicking on any investment and choosing the Investment Data / Specify Lots... popup menu command.

This dialog allows you to choose which shares you want to sell for each redemption in an investment. The shares you choose to sell for each redemption will affect the capital gains reported in the Capital Gain Report. In addition to the specific lot ID method, Fund Manager also has reports for displaying capital gains using either the first in first out (FIFO) or average cost (AVG) accounting methods.  The specific lot ID method is the most flexible, but it requires that you specifically identify which shares to sell for each and every redemption.

Redemptions

List of "sell" transactions available in this investment. Each redemption lists the date of the redemption (Date), whether it has been fully specified (Done), the price at which the shares were sold (Price), and the number of shares that were sold (Shares).  When this redemption has been fully specified a check mark will appear in the "Done" column.

Purchases

List of "buy" transactions available for the selected Redemption. These are purchases that were made prior to the selected Redemption that have un-specified shares remaining to be allocated. Each purchase lists the date of the purchase (Date), the price at which the purchase was made (Price), whether it is a long, medium, or short term holding (Term), how many shares are available to the selected redemption (Available), how many shares the selected redemption is already using from this purchase (Used), and how many are still left that could be used (Unused).  When all the shares for this purchase have been specified, a check mark in the "Done" column will be displayed, indicating there are no more available shares to use from this purchase.  As a shortcut, you can double click on any listed purchase to use these shares for the selected redemption.

Shares Specified From Selected Purchase

Enter the number of shares to use for the selected redemption from the selected purchase.

Totals For Selected Redemption

Specified: Total number of shares specified for the selected redemption. To fully specify a redemption you must specify all the shares in that redemption.
Left to Specify: The number of additional shares that must be specified in order to fully specify the selected redemption.

When using this dialog continue specifying shares until all redemptions have their "Done" column entry checked. At that point, the investment will be fully specified.

Comments:

All redemptions must be fully specified for an investment before using the Capital Gains - Specific Lot Report report. If an investment has not been fully specified the cost basis and gain will be reported as "N/A".

All capital gain reporting supports short, medium, and long term holding periods. You can customize the holding periods with the Report Preferences - Capital Gains Dialog.

All capital gains reporting supports both long and short positions. You can also have a mix of long and short positions in the same investment.
