Hi,
I've downloaded the Beta (PC/Android). I haven't played with it much yet but so far so good.

I'm a little cautious about uploading data to the Portal. Can you discuss what is actually uploaded and how it's secured.

Also, any limits on the Beta? I did one years ago and it ran out of allowed Retrieves before final version was released (may have been a trial version).

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

Good question.

Privacy/Security Notes:
When you upload data only the following data are uploaded:
Code: Select all
Sub-portfolio names
Investment names and/or symbols
Values
Prices
Number of shares owned
Change and % change from prior day

No account numbers or transaction retrieve usernames/passwords are ever uploaded. The data that is uploaded is done so over a secure (HTTPS) connection. Data viewed with the Android app is downloaded via a secure connection also. Data viewed with a web browser is also viewed via a secured HTTPS connection.

This is described in the documentation for this feature:
https://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/hel ... ccess.html

The Beta will expire mid-November, and is limited to 100 starts. This isn't meant to be a limitation, so if you do somehow run out of starts, let me know. I expect the official release to happen well before this time limit of the beta runs out.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks... I can get a little compulsive with the updating so hopefully 100 will last 2 months.

The mobile app works fine. As someone mentioned, it would be nice to be able to update tickers.

It only uploads the last total values right? So, no chance of being able to chart historical totals? It would be nice to be able to pull up charts like in the pc app.

It would be nice to be able to set favorites for the home page. I use a lot of subportfolios, so there is a lot of drilling down.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

Correct, it only uploads/displays the most recent data. Thanks for the feedback/ideas.
Thanks,
Mark

It would be nice to have the client portal update prices with some reasonable interval and show the daily view of change. I would like to upload a portfolio only when I have changed the holdings. This would save the continuous uploading that would make the client portal useful. For this reason, I do not find it very practical.

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Okay, thanks for the feedback. Yes, currently, the updating of prices is done through the Fund Manager application, so you need to periodically update from there. Maybe in the future we can have the client portal and mobile apps update the prices on their own.
Thanks,
Mark

I am not likely to use the client portal until this is added.

One other suggestion. The option to "upload on exit" should be "upload when portfolio closed".

I have 2 portfolios. The one I want uploaded usually doesn't auto-upload since I close/switch (File menu->2) to my other portfolio and exit from there.

Hi Joe,

I see, makes sense... Is there some reason you use multiple portfolio files? Usually it is easiest to have everything in a single portfolio file, and use subs to organize. That way you always have everything open, and don't need to switch, like when doing a price/transaction update for example.
Thanks,
Mark

I created another one recently to keep an eye on a Vanguard account I setup for my elderly mother.

Hi Joe,

You may consider putting all of this in a single portfolio file. It usually makes management easier. You can do something like:

Code: Select all
- Master
  - My Acccounts
    - Acct 1
    - Acct 2
  - Mom's Accounts
    - Acct 3
    - Acct 4

When you report/graph/publish to the portal, you can choose which sub-portfolio to use. So, you could set your web/access to upload the "My Accounts" sub-portfolio if you don't want it to be able to view your mom's accounts.
Thanks,
Mark

Yeah, I think I'll do that.

Anyway, just wanted to post an observation for you to consider.

Thanks, Joe
