New Investments Options Dialog

This dialog controls how new investments will be created when an import or retrieve operation has data for an investment that isn't available in the currently opened investments.

When importing/retrieving data you can choose to have Fund Manager create new investments if a matching open investment was not found. When Fund Manager creates new investments while importing/retrieving, you can control how these new investments will be created.

Create Automatically On:

If you have the option "Create Investments Automatically (Without Prompting)" turned on, then Fund Manager will create any investments without further direction from you. The investments will be created with default values or values available from the import/retrieve. This option is most useful if you have many investments to create, and don't want to modify any of the default values at this time. You can always go back and modify the investment properties at a later time.

When the option "Use Same Folder As Other Investments In Portfolio When Possible" is turned on Fund Manager will look at all the other investments in the same portfolio where the new investment is being created.  If all the investments are located in the same folder, then the newly created investment will also be created in this same folder.  This way, if you're storing each portfolio's investments in its own folder, your newly created investments will go into the correct folder automatically.  With the "Use Same Folder As Other Investments In Portfolio When Possible" option turned off, all new investments will be created in the specified "Default Folder".

When the option "Put Investments of Non-Default Currency in Separate Sub-Portfolios" is turned on, Fund Manager will place investments that aren't in your default currency into separate sub-portfolios, by currency, underneath the account level sub-portfolio.  This can be useful when you want to use separate default cash accounts for each currency, or simply want to separate your investments by currency.

Create Automatically Off:

If you turn off "Create Investments Automatically (Without Prompting)" then you will be prompted with the New Investment Dialog each time Fund Manager is going to create a new investment. This allows you to enter investment specific information the way you want for each investment, rather than accepting the defaults. This will require more manual intervention, but allows you to set up your investments as they are being created.  In this case you will also assign the path/filename for each investment as it is created.
