Price Check Problems with Backup/Exiting Problems

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby jgdickens » Thu Apr 22, 2010 12:33 pm

When checking fund prices, I get a "Could not create internet output file. Please verify, etc." Also, when attempting a backup or exiting, I get an "Access Denied" and "Portfolio Autosave Failed." This is a Vista sytem using FM v 9.6. From my research here in the forum, it appears that this is a Vista-related problem or permissions-related problem. My FM file location is C:\Users\Jim\Documents\FundManager\My_Data. I'm stumped at the moment...
Thanks in advance.

Hi jgdickens,

Did this problem just start, or have you recently upgraded to Vista?

I would suggest going to the location of the internet output log file, and checking both the read-only attribute, and the security permission levels to make sure your user has permission to write to this file. Check all the files in this folder:

C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager

Please note, AppData is a hidden folder.

If your portfolio autosave is failing with a permission denied error, check these same properties for your portfolio file (*.mm4).
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark. It appears that everytime I close the Fund Manager folder under C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Roaming\Fundmanager (after removing the Read- Only attribute), the folder reverts to Read-Only. Is there some way to prevent this from ocurring?
Thanks

Hi jgdickens,

I'm not sure why that is happening... You might want to try this:

1) Exit FM
2) Delete the folder:

C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager

3) Re-start FM

Does that help?
Thanks,
Mark

That fixed the pricing problem, but still have the Access Denied when exiting or backing up. The C:\Users\Jim\Documents\Fund manager\My_Data folder is also reverting to Read-Only after I've changed it. Permissions are OK.

When does the read-only attribute revert? Is it as soon as you change it, or some time later? Did you check the attributes of the parent folder?

You may need to move the folder somewhere else, and then re-create it, and copy the files back into there. I'm not sure why the read-only attribute would come back.
Thanks,
Mark

Each time I change the Read-Only attribute and close the folder, then re-open the folder, it has changed back to Read-Only. I'll try your other suggestion.
