Problems importing QIF file

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Here is a sample of a qif file I am trying to import into FM 4.7.344 (yes - I know it is a tad old...:-))
--------------
!Type:Bank
D31/03/2010
T6000.00
N1
PExcess
^
D17/03/2010
T-8000.00
N2
PCBPMC

D10/03/2010
T4000.00
N3
Pexcess
^
D01/03/2010
T60.88
N4
PCREDIT INTEREST
^
D15/02/2010
T-4000.00
N5
PTopup for CBPMC

-----------------
I have set the date preference in FM to dd/mm/yy.
On the import - I select the file, All Securities, All dates, A specified investment, and do not skip anything...

BUT:
I always get the message "Imported 0 Transactions".

Can anyone suggest why it is not importing the transactions?

Thanks.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

Please try importing it into a current 10.x version. If that doesn't import, you can send me the QIF file, and I can take a closer look. We have made improvements to the QIF import over the years.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

Can I still upgrade 4.x to 10.x for $29?
Will all my old data readily work with 10.x?
Any other upgrade issues I need to be aware of?

Richard.

Hi Mark

Well I bought the new version - and have it going - but still have a couple of problems. The QIF import seems to work quite differently from the old version. I want to import a set of transactions from my bank into a specific fund manager investment which represents my bank account. It appears that the new qif import facility doesn't allow me to specify a particular FM Investment to import into. I assume it requires some indication in the QIF file of which investment it applies to. I don't know how to do this.
Here is the text of my qif file: If I try importing it - it finds no tranactions.

-------
!Type:Bank
D01/04/2010
T61.54
N1
PCREDIT INTEREST
^
D31/03/2010
T6000.00
N2
PExcess
^
----------

Can you advise me how to import these transactions into a specific FM Investment?

I am also having some problems with Internet Retrieve - but will open another thread for these.

Thanks Mark.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

You can't force all transactions into a single investment in the QIF import anymore. You can however import these banking transactions. You just need to make sure you have a default cash account assigned, and import into that sub-portfolio. Banking transactions will only go into a default cash account. To assign a default cash account, right mouse click on a sub-portfolio, and choose "Properties...".
Thanks,
Mark

Hi again Mark.

I'm not sure that will solve my problem. I have 2 bank accounts with fairly frequent transactions both of which I would like to track with FM. The banking system can produce either Quiken or several other formats - one account at a time. Can you advise a method of tracking more than one bank account?

Thanks Mark.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

You could create multiple sub-portfolios, each one for each bank account. Each sub-portfolio can have its own default cash account.
Thanks,
Mark
