General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

I would like to link to my 401K account with Correll Co. to get transactions electronically transferred into my portfolio.

Is there a way to do this today or a planned enhancement to add this to the list of companies to link to?
Thanks

Hi trqcsc,
In order for you to retrieve transactions from any broker, the broker must make your data available on an "Open Financial Exchange" server. This is a standardized server/format that enables programs like Fund Manager to retrieve the data for you. We support all brokers that we know of that offer an OFX server. If Correll Co. makes an OFX server available, we will add support for them. You might want to ask your broker if/when they will be providing you this capability. For a few more details on this, see our FAQ on this issue here:

Mark,
Thank you for the prompt response. I'll check with Correll to see if they offer OFX.
I've been using FM for about two years now and I'm very pleased with the results. I link to Ameriprise and Fidelity and it works quite well. Thank you for the ongoing enhancements.
Best,
Randy (trqcsc)

Hi Mark,
Here is the response I received from Correll..
"I can tell you that it is possible to export transaction information into a text file for import into Quicken or other financial software. After you log into your account, go to the Transaction Tab, then select Transaction History on the left-hand side of the page. You can then filter by date and download the period of time that you desire."
Is it possible to take advantage of the export capability to manually access my Correll transaction data?
Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy,
Yes, it probably is possible to do this. The exact steps depend on what format you can download from your broker. I'm guessing that you can get either a QIF, OFX, or QFX formatted file. Once you download the file from your broker, use one of the "File / Import / Transactions" menu commands to import that file. Select the appropriate import command, depending on the format of your download.

Hey Mark,
Looks like the only format I can download is .txt (it looks like a flat comma separated file).
I'm assuming that I have to create a custom generic import function to capture the right info? Please point me in the direction of any hints.
Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy,
Yes, you would need to use the "File / Import / Transactions / Generic..." command for this format. Open up that dialog, and press the "Help..." button for instructions/examples. If you get stuck, you can post a sample line from your file, and I can help with the specifics.

Hi Mark,
I'll definitely take you up on your offer since I would be there 3 days figuring out how to configure the import. If not too much trouble could you take a look at these and give me your thoughts?
Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy,
You can use this format string:
MM/DD/YY,XX,TRAN,MEMO,BNUM,$ANUM,XX,CNUM
You will have to add one more column to the end of your file, that contains 0, since you don't seem to have a commission column. The "CNUM" field is required, and is commission fee. Also, you will need to take the absolute value of the shares column. Instead of (142.936) you need to make it a positive number as 142.936. A sell transaction code is expecting a positive number for the shares sold. So, your two data rows would look like:
09/16/2009,Employee 401(k) contributions source,N/A,JAENX,Janus Enterprise Fund,Sell,Sell 142.936 units of Janus Enterprise Fund at $44.12 for a total of $6306.34. (Unit certain),142.936000,$44.12,$6306.34,0
10/01/2009,Employee 401(k) contributions source,N/A,JMCVX,Perkins Mid Cap Value Fund,Buy,Pretax contribution of $100.00 to Perkins Mid Cap Value Fund.,5.368000,$18.63,$100.00,0
