10 beta 1 doesn't retrieve high and low prices

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

As I updated to 10, I suddenly don't retrieve high and low prices, but just the close. I looked under Internet Settings and everything is as before (Yahoo, Yahoo historical).

Am I the only one with this problem?

Hi Luca,

The high/low seem to be retrieving for me okay using 10.0. Where are you viewing the high/low prices? Can you give me an example ticker symbol that isn't updating?
Thanks,
Mark

All the tickers have the same problem (i.e. ko). If I look at the prices tab, I just see the closing price and volume, the high and low fields have zeros in them.

Let me know if you need anything from me to debug it.

Hi luca,

By 'prices tab', do you mean in the Data Register under the 'Prices' data type? That would be the best place to view the high/low data.

I just retrieved KO using both Yahoo and Yahoo (Historical) with 10.0 Beta 3 and quote module 407. For both servers the high/low retrieved properly.

Here's some things to check:

1) Look at the "Investment Properties... / Internet Retrieve" tab of your investment, and make sure it is set to retrieve prices, and the server is "<Default Server>".

2) After retrieving, look in your user's AppData\Roaming\Fund Manager folder. You should see a "prices.csv" file. Open that up, and see if you see all the high/low prices okay.
Thanks,
Mark

Yes. I meant the Data Register tab. When I get home tonight I'll check what you are suggesting. I think I already did 1. but I'll double check.

More data. If I right click on an investment and select "Retrieve Selected Prices" it downloads all the prices (open, close, high, low).

What doesn't work is the automatic downloading that I've set up using Task Scheduler to run daily at 4.04am. The program that I run is:

Program: "D:\Program Files\Fund Manager\Fm.exe"

Add Argument: "D:\Documents and Settings\Luca\My Documents\FundManager\Try\MasterPort.mm4" /I /Q

Start in: D:\Program Files\Fund Manager

All the prices downloaded by such program contains just the closing prices, but they have empty Open, High, Low, Volume.

Your point 1. above is satisfied. On your point 2., I've done a search of both my drive and I haven't found an AppData directory. I'm running Windows 7.

Hi luca,

How about if you just do a normal price retrieve (Edit / Internet Retrieve / Prices) from within the program?

The AppData folder is hidden. On Vista it is at:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData

Doing what you suggest retrieves all the prices, not just the close. It works.

The prices.csv contains all the prices, not just the close.

Hi luca,

So everything works, except your timed command line version? What if you run your command line version manually? The command line version works okay here.
Thanks,

Running the command line version manually works just fine. Going to the interface for Task Scheduler and running it manually works just fine.

I'm baffled. Maybe they have a bug on the Yahoo server such that at the time I connect the prices are screw up and return just the Close.

It would be simpler to understand if the close weren't there either.

In any case, I changed the time of connection and I'll see what happens a couple of days from now.

Hi luca,

That is quite odd... You may be right, it may be something specific to the time you are retrieving. If changing the time doesn't fix it, take a look at your prices.csv file again, and also at the intlog2.txt file in that same folder. The intlog2.txt is a log of the communications with the server. It might provide a clue.
Thanks,

No luck. Tonight the task run at 2am instead of 4am, it overwrote the(open, high, low, volume) that I downloaded manually yesterday with zeros. It did download the close just fine.

IntLog2 contains zeros as well, a subset below:
"EWP",51.60,"10/21/2009","4:00pm",0.00,N/A,N/A,N/A,0
"TAREX",20.80,"10/21/2009","6:05pm",+0.04,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A
"BRK-B",3283.24,"10/21/2009","4:02pm",0.00,N/A,N/A,N/A,0
"PVFIX",12.83,"10/21/2009","6:05pm",-0.03,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A
"NEGI.PK",3.91,"10/21/2009","3:01pm",0.00,N/A,N/A,N/A,0
"TAVIX",15.97,"10/21/2009","6:05pm",-0.17,N/A,N/A,N/A,N/A
"LENS.PK",3.62,"10/20/2009","12:59pm",0.00,N/A,N/A,N/A,0

It is quite a mystery. Mark, any idea what to try next?

Hi luca,

Apparently at the time you are retrieving, Yahoo is returning 0 or N/A. You could double check that by going to Yahoo's web site at this same time, and looking up a quote, and then click on the link to "Download Data", which is where Fund Manager is requesting the data from. I'd guess you'll get the same result with a web browser, as with Fund Manager. If this is the case, I'd suggest downloading earlier. I believe you will have this same issue with a 9.x version of Fund Manager, since it is just the way Yahoo is returning the data at this time in the morning.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
If I look at the history of prices, they become zeros the same day I installed FM v10. That is somehow suspect :-)

Noneless, I'll try to download them at 9pm and see what happens. Have you tried doing the same thing I'm doing? Does it run fine for you?

Hi luca,

That is suspicious... Did you change anything else when you upgraded? You can download 9.x and set up a couple investments for testing purposes to verify the problem happens with that version as well. Since it is showing in the intlog2.txt file, I'm pretty sure it will happen in 9.x as well.

I've tested everything the same as you, except for retrieving at 2am or 4am. I have my Windows task schedule set for 8pm.
Thanks,
Mark
