My data has subset of My data

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby JimmyB » Wed Sep 09, 2009 12:43 pm

I have been a user for several years going through several upgrades and new computers and somehow I've gotten my data folders as a subset of my data folders. I have .dat files in both of same investment although some may not be current. I also have .dat files outside of my data folders. I believe that my trouble started when the Porfolio editor was introduced. Is there a simple way (or any way) out of this mess.
I have backups so all is not lost just misplaced. Thanks

Hi JimmyB,

If you just have a couple investments you want to move, use "File / Save Investment As..." from within the Portfolio Editor.

If you have too many investments for this method, you can do a "File / Backup..." and then a "File / Restore..." and change the target destination to a folder that you specify. If you have a name conflict of any investments this will not work though. For example, if you have the same named investment in 2 different folders currently. You can use the "File / Save Investment As..." method to eliminate filename conflicts, and then do the restore method. I'd suggest restoring to some completely new folder, leaving your original data alone. After restoring, open up the portfolio from the new location. If you get any errors about missing investments, you'll have an option to re-direct Fund Manager to this new folder where you just restored.
Thanks,
Mark
