Specific Lot for Gain Calculation

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Hello,

I see that there is a record "Spec Lot Unrlz Gain". Can this record be used to show the gain for an open lot? If not, can such option be added to Fund Manager?

Thanks.

Hi ammar,

Yes, see the "Open Lots" report. When you run this report, you choose an "Accounting Method". The default is "Assigned Investment Property", which then uses each investment's assigned accounting method under "Investment Properties... / Other / Accounting Method". You can also override this, and specify an accounting method to use for the report.

You can choose from a variety of fields to display in this report under "Options / Report Preferences... / Open Lots". If you choose the "Tax Gain" this will show you the unrealized capital gain/loss for each lot, using the specified accounting method.
Thanks,
Mark

I see. It would be nice if this option can be added to Portfolio Editor window as well. I.e., when you choose "Spec Lot Unrlz Gain" column to display it displays the gain for the open lots you specified. Current value for "Spec Lot Unrlz Gain" column is exactly the same as it is for "Unrlz Gain", and there is no way to speficy particular open lots for gain calculation.

Hi ammar,

I'm not sure I followed the request... The Portfolio Editor doesn't list lots, it lists investments and sub-portfolios. You can choose the "Spec Lot Unrlz Gain" field, and that will give you the unrealized gains for all open lots in an investment or sub-portfolio, using the Specified Lot accounting method, ignoring the assigned investment property of accounting method. You can choose which lots are open and which have been sold by right mouse clicking on an investment and choosing "Investment Data / Specify Lots...".
Thanks,
Mark
