Yahoo downloads incorrect price for a stock

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Hi Mark,

Do you have a contact for me at Yahoo?

The downloded price for JP Morgan has been incorrect for about 2 weeks where the price reported on their webpage is correct. (All other stocks are correct). It is irritating to have to manually correct it each day and I'd like to bring it to their attention.

In the past they have ignored my e-mails to their general mailbox.

Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne, I had a dialogue with Mark about this very issue a few days ago. You can read about it here:

I converted to FM from Quicken, and if my memory serves correctly, Quicken had issues with Yahoo a few years ago regarding price downloads. As I recall, Yahoo was slow to respond, so I'm not expecting them to fix the JPM issue anytime soon.

I worked around this issue by using Bloomberg instead of Yahoo for both current and historical pricing. Hope this helps.

I have used Yahoo for so long that I hesitate to change!

Is Bloomberg just as reliable for downloaded quotes as Yahoo? Maybe for now I'll just use it for JPM and leave Yahoo for the rest. (I assume I can do that)

Thanks,
Wayne

I'm relatively new to FM, and so is my experience with Bloomberg, but it has worked well for me (400+ quotes daily and historically).

I believe you can change the quote provider from the Investment Properties dialog, Internet Retrieve tab. I, too, considered changing only JPM but I was concerned about deviating from using one quote provider for all. (Specific concern was remembering which stocks were using which provider.)

Hi Wayne and aviator,

Wayne, I do not have a special contact at Yahoo. I'd just go to their "Help" link, and find a way to send feedback.

You can change quote servers exactly as aviator mentioned. If you do override a single investment's quote server there are a couple of easy ways to identify which ones you have overridden:

1) Add "Quote Server" to the list view in the Portfolio Editor by using "View / List Columns...". Sort by this column by clicking on the column's header.

2) Create a Custom report with the "Quote server" field. You can sort the report from the top level "Sort" menu.
Thanks,
Mark
