Upgrade Instructions

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Fund Manager here are some tips to make the upgrade go smoothly.

If you are upgrading from a version prior to 8.0 please note that there is an upgrade fee required for the 8.x versions.  See the purchase page for pricing.  Once you have upgraded to 8.x, your new license key will be valid in all 8.x versions.

The 8.x versions use a new portfolio file format, compared to all prior versions.  The 8.x versions can read all previous file formats, so you can continue to use your existing data.  Once you save your portfolio files with a 8.x version however, you will not be able to open those same files using earlier versions of Fund Manager.  When you save portfolio files that were previously saved in an earlier file format Fund Manager will warn you about this as well.

Versions 8.x use the same investment file format as the 7.x and 6.x versions.

You can install the new version directly over your old version.  During installation specify the directory where your current version is located (eg. C:\Program Files\Fund Manager).  During installation the setup program will fill in the location of your current version by default, so you should not have to change anything.  Your old version of Fund Manager will be overwritten.  New samples will be installed in the samples sub-directory.

You should not uninstall your old version before installing the new version.  Uninstalling removes registry entries where many of your Fund Manager preferences are stored.  Uninstalling is not necessary and will cause the loss of these preferences.
