Need help on master portfolio

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby mikeh » Thu Sep 10, 2009 5:22 pm

All of a sudden my master portfolio is showing each investment twice. I thought I had it fixed, as the current date portfolio is correct, but going back a few months everything is still doubled. What caused this to happen, how can I fix it, and what can I do to prevent it from happening again??

Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,

Are the transactions duplicated, or are the investments included more than once? If the investments are included more than once, this will apply for all time, even for the current date, so I'm not sure I'm understanding what the situation is. Can you describe in what window you are seeing the master portfolio showing each investment twice, and where you are viewing that the current date portfolio is correct? What is correct, the value, or the investments included in the Master Portfolio?

The best place to look for investments in sub-portfolios is the Portfolio Editor window. There are several ways to add investments to a sub-portfolio, and you can add the same investments multiple times, although you generally don't want to do this. Here are some ways you can add investments:

"File / Open Investments..."
Drag/drop in the Portfolio Editor
Copy/Paste in the Portfolio Editor

If you do have duplicate investments, use the Portfolio Editor to close the duplicates.
Thanks,
Mark

I was seeing all my investments duplicated (listed twice) in the Master Portfolio/Reports/Portfolio Value window. I managed to delete the duplicates so that the current value of my portfolio was correct, but for prior dates there were still duplicates of investments I no longer owned.

I have now deleted all of the duplicate investments, and it appears that everything is ok, but it is apparent that something happened to duplicate them all in the first place. I can't imagine what it would be because the only changes I have made to my portfolio over the last couple of weeks is to update the prices with the PRC button.

Any thoughts?

Hi Mike,

Glad you got it straightened out. The only way to get duplicate investments is if they somehow got added in a second time, using one of the methods I mentioned. Possibly an inadvertent copy/paste, or a drag/drop while holding down the Ctrl button?
Thanks,
Mark
