New Computer

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Postby PaulLange » Wed Apr 22, 2020 11:09 am

Thank you for taking the time to help me with this. I have FM on an old computer and it is out of warranty ~2018. I want to put FM onto my new computer and retrieve the information from the old. Can I install FM on the new computer and the old so that I can access it? The old (windows 7) will not allow me to open it.

Thank you in advance.

Hi PaulLange,

Yes, you can install it on both. What specifically happens when you try to access it from your old computer?

You might find these instructions helpful:

I too am having trouble transferring Fund Manger from an old Windows 7 computer to a newer Windows 10 system. I have FMgr v2016. I experimented with FMgr 2020 on the Win10. I did not save the data in its new format and decided not to upgrade.
I keep the program file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager and the data in C:\Users\admini\Documents\My App Data\Fund Manager data 200430
When I started the move to the new computer, I copied an old FMgr 2016 program files over the 2020 files. No luck.
I uninstalled FMgr 2020 from the new machine, thinking copying an older version over the point upgrade didn’t work. Fund Manager does not appear in on the Programs list.
The old program runs but gives me "Could not load INTENG14X.dll" and "Quote module is not digitally signed. Please reinstall Fund Manager." Help, and Internet Retrieve do not work. Disabling my anti-virus software did not help.
I suspect I need to reinstall FMgr 2016 but it’s not clear how to do that.

Hi Houstonwb,

What is the name of the file you downloaded? Did you run it to install it? Did it install successfully? Did you start the program afterwards using the link created by the setup program? If so, you should be able to open the version you installed.
Thanks,
Mark

The file is Fm2016Pro_p16.exe
I simply clicked on it and it ran. I do not believe it installed because I do not see FMgr in the Start Menu or in Uninstall Programs.

After you start the install program, you should normally see a prompt for permission, and then you have to "Agree" to the license agreement, and then click "Install", and then "Finish". Are you seeing all of these?
Thanks,
Mark

I am not seeing anything that feels like an installation program. I worry that the installation of the demo of the new version messed things up now that I am trying to revert.

The file "Fm2016Pro_p16.exe" is the setup program for FM 2016 Professional. If you run that, it should allow you to install the program. You should see the messages I mentioned:

you should normally see a prompt for permission, and then you have to "Agree" to the license agreement, and then click "Install", and then "Finish".

You don't have to uninstall anything, and nothing else you've done in the past should prevent you from being able to install this version.
Thanks,
Mark
