Move from Portable Mode to Local

General questions about using Fund Manager that do not fit into any other forum.

Good Morning:
I hope you can help moving from the portable mode to local.
Running Windows 10
I made a backup, & deleted my portable install.
Did new install of Professional Version 2020.16.4 to C:\Program Files (x86)\Fund Manager
Tried to restore back file but it fails to restore with the following messages:
Access is denied
then the message in the attached : FailedRestore1.jpg
then the message in the attached : FailedRestore2.jpg
and finally "Restore Failed"

I would like all my data and backups in one folder :
R:\ScottsData\GoogleDrive\Finance\FundManager

Can you guide me on restoring my data and configuring my backups to go to the folder noted?
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

This is a permission issue... The portable mode relies on saving your preferences to the same folder where you have installed Fund Manager. When restoring, it will try to write the fmprefs.txt file back to the folder with FM.exe. In this case it is in the Program Files directory, and FM can't write there normally, as it runs with standard permissions. Here is how you can accomplish your goal:

1) Start FM as an admin by right mouse clicking on it, and choosing "Run as Administrator...".
2) Now, do your restore, and it should complete successfully.
3) Turn off portable mode while still running as an admin. Do this under "Options / General Preferences... / Data / Portable/Cloud Mode".
4) Exit, FM, and re-start it normally (not as an admin), and verify everything is okay. If your data is not where you want, use "File / File Operations / Set Data Location...".
Thanks,
Mark
