Praise, Toolbar and Forum Suggestions

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Well, I gotta say it ... for all of its frustrations and whatnot, FM is a pretty fine product. I've been using it for years and still marvel at its features. Godspeed to you guys.

Having said that, a couple of minor suggestions today - just to keep it all from going to your heads:

1) Dunno about other users but I'd sure find a toolbar button for switching between yield types (ROI and TWR) to be real handy,

2) The forum as it exists is pretty much: User writes something, Mark replies, end of discussion. Could you dedicate and even promote a forum where users can discuss FM and related subjects between themselves?

Hi El Wealtho,

1) Okay, thanks for that idea.

2) Yes, we could. There is nothing preventing this from happening on the already existing forums. Anyone is open to comment or reply to any of the threads. If there is enough interest in a forum where I don't reply or get involved, I can consider creating one.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I think it would be beneficial for users to have a "Tips and Tricks" thread where we can post ideas of things that have worked for us.

I'll be the first to start:

I didn't know until recently that hiding an investment doesn't automatically turn off price retrieval for that investment. Result was price history retrievals taking longer than they should, for investments I no longer cared about.

I wanted to know which of my investments were hidden but were still retrieving prices. I solved the problem by:
1) Creating a custom report with just three fields: Symbol, Retrieve Price and Hidden.
2) I ran the report with hidden fields visible (View/Hidden Investments and Portfolios with a check mark next to it).
3) Sort the report by the Hidden field. All the Hidden=Yes should be at the top of the report.
4) Scan the report for all Hidden=Yes *and* Retrieve Price=Yes.
5) If/when you come across an investment that has both set to Yes, right click on the investment, click on Investment Properties..., click on the Internet Retrieve tab, and uncheck the Retrieve Price box. Click OK.
