Watch List version of Portfolio Editor

Mark:

A suggested significant improvement:

You have several very nice potential display columns for the Portfolio Editor. The use of some of them can depend on the type of sub-portfolio being monitored/viewed, however.

If a 'Portfolio Type' switch existed as a separate Portfolio property ("Watch List" or "Non-Watch List"), one could then have 2 Portfolio views using a totally different set of display columns.

For instance, on a Watch List type portfolio, columns such as Unrealized Gain, Cost basis per Share, # of Shares, etc. are irrelevant. It would be nice to replace these with a number of your other columns - especially some of the custom columns.

Might you one day consider expanding the power of the Portfolio Editor to include this capability?

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the feedback. I do like that idea. We could allow you to save named templates, and easily switch between them. Each template would remember a different setting for which list view columns are displayed, and their order.
Thanks,
Mark

Even better. That would be an exciting new feature! Thanks for listening.

One last thought - maybe a 'default' template for each sub-portfolio would be a nice touch as well.

Any chance this is still on the 'to do' list for down the road?

Hi Gary,

Yes, it is still on the list of features we'll consider. The list is long, and unfortunately we can't do everything we'd like, but it is still on the list. I do agree this would be a nice feature.
Thanks,
Mark

I have a more modest request on this subject. I use two copies of Fund Manager, one on my desktop and the other on my laptop for when I travel. You can imagine the problems keeping the column display in both machines in sync. I am sure FM must keep the setting somewhere in a file. Where is it and can I just do a quickie copy of the file from one machine to another so the two will match up? Thanks.

Hi Kay,

The column preferences are stored in the registry. If you transfer your data between computers by doing a backup/restore, just make sure you include the registry preferences in the restore, and that will copy over the column preferences.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the quick reply. I store my portfolio in an external drive. This way, I can just pick up my laptop and go without worrying about the data. I will try the restore route when I get home.
