ROI Displayed Above Graphs Not Useful?

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

ROI is a measure of the performance of the actual investment or portfolio.

There seems to be little or no meaning to a periodic ROI such as is displayed in FM in the line of yields above the graphs at the periods prescribed by the user. Two examples: an investment held less than the minimum available of 1 month still has a very significant and important ROI. An investment held 4.5 months is not accurately described by an ROI of 4 months or 5 months and that information is quite useless.

Useful in that space would be actual ROI.

HI Septaj,

The ROI yields tell you how well your money has performed for that time period. It is a time and money weighted return. I believe it is quite useful, and is one of the more popular features of Fund Manager. Any ROI yield equation is covering a time period, not an instantaneous point in time. The equation used for ROI yield is documented here:

Maybe you can give an example of what you're looking for with "actual" ROI? How would you calculate it? Maybe you are referring to the "ROI (inception)" where you calculate it from the date you first purchased it? If so, you can use the "gph" figure above the charts, and set your graph date range to "TRN", where it starts on the first date you had a transaction.
Thanks,
Mark

Good points. The gph coupled with the trn in the drop-down is helpful, providing, as you point out, ROI since inception which is indeed what I meant by "actual" ROI.

I see also that changing the graph start date to the most recent purchase of an investment might provide ROI on just that purchase at gph.

How would you feel about providing an ROI since inception option in Legend Text?

Hi Septaj,

Glad you found that helpful. Thanks for the feedback, we can consider adding such a field to the legend text options.
Thanks,
Mark
