Total for #Shares

Any chance you could add this bottom-line total to the Portfolio Editor - it is handy as a "hash total" to insure all individual share counts are correct (esp when the portolio contains numerous mutual funds, each with 3-digit decimal precision)?

Hi gmsimon,

Thanks for the feedback. I fear that may confuse people if we add shares of different securities, and report this as a total for the portfolio. One way you could get this number is to create a Portfolio Value report, and do "File / Export to CSV..." and then add the shares column in Excel.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark:
When managing a large portfolio (100 different tickers), it would be VERY helpful to have the total number of shares displayed (could be an option if it would confuse others). Why? - because I use several off-line spreadsheets that portray this data in various other forms. It is helpful to keep these in synch with FM if I can compare overall total #shares in FM portfolio vs the spreadsheets' totals.

Again, I realize most folks might not want this so could you add it as a preference option in the 'Portfolio Editor Display' under General Preferences (similar to the Show Totals checkbox)?

Thanks.

Hi gmsimon,

Sorry for the delay in responding, I missed seeing your post. We can consider this. It isn't something I've heard requested before/frequently. I can suggest a work-around for now if you'd like to get this share total. You can create a simple Portfolio Value report, and then do a "File / Export to CSV...". Open up this file in Excel, and total the share column.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for reply - yes, the workaround is fine short-term but sort of a pain when a simple on-screen total could always be there. It would make it easier to spot a difference I wasn't aware of (without running the report/export/etc all the time).
