1) Being limited to 255 characters for Note is, well, limiting but might not be able to be increased easily by FM.
2) Labeling Note only by Date provides very poor means for finding what you want. Being able to append the Date with at least 5 text characters of my choosing would be great aid e.g.
a) 9/22/12 Srec
b) 9/27/12 SL?
If the above were Notes a and b for same investment my acronym would mean for me that on 9/22/12 that Note would indicate that my own research or following advice of investment newsletter had a Sell recommendation; and that for Note b I wrote about my considerations for setting a Sell (stop loss) limit order
If the field is made editable and field type is General then I could choose to not use a date at all and if field sorts Ascending I could use a leading letter or number to create sequence and have even more space for my acronym game. While I don't expect to ever have more than 4 or 5 Notes for a given Investment within a given Portfolio having some manner for figuring out what the Note might be about would be a great aid.
Since I have not yet used graphing and Notes seem to also be attached to that feature, FM might need to segregate Notes connected with Port Editor and other "modules" of FM.
An alternative approach which would be very slick in numerous parts of FM, would be to keep the Date field but if you hover your mouse over it, it pops up the equivalent of a tool tip that gives you the first 30 characters of what your Note actually says.
The above is a refinement on a great program and I expect that there are far more imp feature requests that I and others have made to increase ease and functionality.
