Data Register: show the transaction at the cash account side

Comments, critical feedback, praise, or suggestions for new features.

Hi Mark,

When a default cash account is set for a portfolio, I would find useful to have a command in the contextual menu of the transactions in the Data Register (so when right clicking in a transaction) :
- in the contextual menu of a transaction in a regular investment, the command would be: "Show the transaction in the default cash account"
- in the contextual menu of a transaction in the default cash account, the command would be: "Show the transaction in the corresponding investment"

The command would change the Data Register display to see the corresponding transaction, either at the cash account side or at the investment side (or maybe a new Data Register window could be opened to show the corresponding transaction, instead of changing the display in the current Data Register). Some messages would inform when the corresponding transaction cannot be found.

This would make the process of navigating and "debugging" transactions faster and more efficient.

Thanks.

Hi Mark,

Somewhat related: I have to enter my transactions manually. Sometimes I make a mistake with the date of the transactions (I don't pay attention and validate the default date) and so I have to fix this for several transactions. The quickest way would be to fix the transaction dates on the cash account side, but if you do that a new transaction is created on the regular investments side. So you can't do that and you have to return to each regular investment to change the transaction date from here (in this case the transaction date on the cash account side is changed accordingly). This is more work to do, so I wonder if there is a good reason why you can't change the transaction date on the cash account side and this is changed for the transaction on the regular investment side as well, without creating a new transaction.

The suggested new command (show the transaction in the cash account / regular investment) would help too for this kind of operations.

Hi Djobydjoba,

It was just a design decision made, so that you don't have to have both the cash/stock side matching if for some reason you don't want them to be the same value. Edits/additions from the stock side affect the default cash, but editing the cash side won't go back and change anything about the stock's side of the transaction.
Thanks,
Mark

Okay, thanks for the explanation. In fact I just thought that the Investment Transaction report will be a good help to change quickly a bunch of transaction dates in several investments.
