interaction of account fee and money market account

Questions about updating prices or transactions in Fund Manager

Postby scottnewbie » Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:08 am

Hi Mark,
(1)Entering past Sun America data (2004) in fm I came across substantial account fees per quarter. They were showing up in my statements as transactions, then again showing as withdrawals from the money market account. I wasn't previously entering data for the money market account--should I?
(2)Also, some non-reinvested distributions showed up in the money market account, while other non-reinvested distributions did not. For the latter there was no record of a check being sent to a bank account. Any ideas where that money went?
(3)Finally, there are purchases shown in the statements for the money market account (different amounts than the mysterious (at least to me) non-reinvested distributions). Was my deceased wife putting money into that account? My broker?
Sorry for the vague nature of question 2 & 3!!

Hi scottnewbie,

Which "statements" are you referring to? Are these statements from your broker, or some report out of Fund Manager?

If you record any transaction that uses or generates cash while you have a default cash account assigned, that money will automatically be taken out of, or put into, the cash account. So, for example, if you record an account fee in a certain investment, that money will be automatically deducted from your default cash account. Reinvested distributions do not use/generate any cash, so they will have no impact here. Only distributed distributions will be recorded in the cash account.

One possible reason why some non-reinvested distributions show up in your cash account, but others don't is that maybe the default cash account was not assigned when you entered/retrieved those distributions. Another possibility is that you retrieved transactions, and turned off the option "Automatically Record Corresponding Entry in Default Cash Account". This option is on the bottom of the "Preview Importing Transactions" dialog.
Thanks,
Mark
